CGI Properties

SinterCast has conducted extensive CGI material property investigations with recognised independent laboratories and research institutes. The full SinterCast CGI Material Property Database is available to SinterCast’s Customers and has also been used as the basis of the chapter entitled “Mechanical Properties of Compacted Graphite Iron” in the recently published AFS (American Foundry Society) Iron Castings Engineering Handbook.

The SinterCast CGI database defines CGI properties as a function of microstructure and chemistry for tensile and compressive testing at room and elevated temperatures, fatigue behaviour, damping capacity, wear resistance, thermal expansion and thermal conductivity up to 400ºC. The properties of grey iron, CGI and ductile iron are summarised in the following overview.
